A 19th-century stately mansion in the centre of Antwerp is being thoroughly renovated. The orientation and the high wall at the back of the plot limit the incoming sunlight. Sober design interventions are searched for that deal with these issues while maintaining the grandeur of the house. The annexed building is replaced by a new, terraced addition. Its corner is cut off in function of sun-access and elegance. The living and home office spaces spread over two levels and are connected by different vistas that also allow sunlight to flow through. Terraces are conceived on different levels for every moment of the day. A generous external staircase adds spatial value to the modest garden.
